The year started with an announcement of up to 2,400 jobs being cut from the Navy, but it was not all gloom as the MOD ordered new ocean survey vessel HMS Scott. Training ended at Portland naval base, HMS Broadsword ended her Naval career, and the last ships sailed from Rosyth naval base. Navy News also marked the 50th anniversary of VE and VJ Days with special supplements.
