The demise of the Royal Tournament Field Gun Competition was a notable feature of 1999, a year which also saw the World War II cruiser back at sea as she travelled from London to Portsmouth for a refit.
HMS Glasgow was involved in the crisis in East Timor, while in the Caribbean, HMS Marlborough made two drugs busts which seized drugs worth almost £2 billion.
