Humanitarian work again hit the headlines in 2000, with Cardiff helping out after a hurricane in Anguilla, RFA Fort George assisting after disastrous floods in Mozambique, and Cardiff on hand after another hurricane this time in Belize.

The Navy helped stabilize the trouble-torn African nation of Sierra Leoone, and while HMS Dolphin said goodbye to the Submarine School, the Government approved the new Type 45 destroyer, and HMS Invincible led a round-Britain 'Meet the Navy' tour.
